When, How, and What We Hunt
We typically hunt dry fields, but every once in a while we will hunt a little pond for ducks, but no waders needed! The guide will do all the water work!
The birds typically killed are greater and lesser Canada geese. We will kill a few speckled belly geese (white fronted geese) and just a few snow geese. The majority of the ducks killed are mallards, however we hunt a fair share of pintail as well as a few widgeon around the beginning of October.
The plumage starts to color up around the first week of October, and by the third week most of the mallards look outstanding.
Seasons start September 1st and our lodge is available through the last week of October. We book with the intent to fill up camp at the best time for the birds, however we will book any date that suits your schedule!
Everyone asks when is the best time to hunt. In our opinion, any time throughout the duration of October. It seems to get better by the day. The color of the ducks get better into the latter part of October. Although these dates are typically the most popular, we have found that late September are great for hunting as well.
We hunt a large area, usually using three to four guides spotting birds in different areas. This process spreads out the hunting pressure to different areas and keeps us on fresh birds.
